Skae is one of the first of her people to live a normal life after the phage was cured. She was a small child when the cure was distributed throughout her people. But not before she'd undergone Vidiian medical procedures to mitigate the advancement of the disease in her body. As a result, she has skin grafts and an eye transplant from a Talaxian visible on her face along with a few scars. She might have other alterations or scars but they are well hidden by her uniform. 

 Skae's desire to join the DFA was met with only encouragement and support from her family and friends. 

She enrolled on her 20th birthday and has recently graduated from the Academy
