Having reassessed our assimilation strategies for Species 10030 to better maintain our resources, we returned to the system. Most of the Species 10030 fleet had left but a few vessels remained in defence of the planet, including the Vhett'Ex which was still trying to start up again after Three of Ten had deactivated its warp core. We destroyed the remaining ships and began scanning the planet. Sensors detected potential signals for Particle 011. Perfection.     Submatrix 34 was beamed as close as possible to the single. Transporting directly next to the single was impossible because something in the vicinity appeared to be interfering with our transporter beam. Submatrix 34 were in the middle of a prehistoric jungle with lifesigns reading all around. They began moving steadily forward towards the Particle 011 single but were delayed by hostile individuals.     The reptilian creatures had a higher than estimated resistance quotient and considerably outnumbered the submatrix. They were able to take some advantage from the environment the drones travelled through (long grass) because while we could see them with our ocular implants, we could not fire without setting the grass alight. Two of the drones were damaged before a strategy was reached. They were repaired. We decided to walk in a formation whereby there were drones facing in all possible directions. Two of Ten had weakened connection to the rest of us and was thus put in the middle of the formation and 'pushed along'. Most of the reptilian creatures were deactivated. Those that were not retreated.    Nine and Six of Ten ran diagnostics on Two and found no obvious errors. All systems appeared nominal but the drone was not processing our commands and we could not sense it. It was still complying so we decided to relay commands through Seven of Ten and continue in search of the single. We will destroy Two should it become a threat.     Eight of Ten reported input failure a short time later. It was experiencing the same malfunction as Two with the same apparent lack of cause. We detected an approaching life-form, approximately 18ft tall slowly approaching on Submatrix 34's location...

Probe 815 approached a Species 10030 colony along with two spheres, intending on beginning the assimilation of the planet. Submatrix 34 was sent to one of the attacking vessels, designation; 'Vhett'Ex'. The vessel's bridge was assimilated with ease and eight new drones were assimilated. Three, Four and Eight of Ten were sent to Engineering. Three connected to the Vhett'Ex computer and brought the engines to a stop while Four and Eight defended its position from the Engineers. Four was deactivated when security personnel arrived. The frequency of the phaser used was not transmitted to the Borg as expected.  Two, Six, Seven and a number of other drones were sent to the mess hall which was highly populated. A security team arrived quickly at their location. We experienced an unexpected amount of resistance and found that our assimilation rate was no longer greater than our deactivation rate. Additionally, shield frequencies were not being transmitted from deactivated drones so we were struggling to adapt. The decision made was to leave the colony while we considered a new strategy of attack and to collect the neural processors of the damaged drones in an attempt to work out what was going wrong.  Two and Seven were both badly damaged during the assimilation attempt, Two having severed the nerves in its organic arm. A new Nine of Ten was activated to begin repairs on the damaged drones, Six of Ten assisted. Three processed the data from the collected neural processors and we discovered that the deactivated drones had reported 'input failure' when the drones attempting to assimilate Species 10030. This only seemed to occur for the members of Species 10030 belonging to the security team, the other people aboard had not affected their connection. It was this input failure that had prevented them from transferring the frequency data to the Collective upon deactivation. The drones at close range had detected a device similar or the same as the small dampening field box the individual from the Vix'Ok had been carrying.

The battle between the Species 10030 immune system and the Borg nanoprobes that had been ongoing inside the half-assimilated individuals in the Vix'Ok sickbay finally ended with the nanites victory. Four new undesignated drones came to be inside the Vix'Ok. It was decided that these drones should be used for a second assimilation attempt of the Vix'Ok. The attempt failed when the Captain of the Vix'Ok ejected a portion of the ship into space but we did gather valuable data for adaption.  Data gathered from the doctor after assimilation revealed to us that Species 10030 have a symbiotic relationship with another lifeform. The other lifeform, amongst other things, acts as an immune system for them. Analysis of the captured individuals from the Vix'Ox, who were being held on the Probe, revealed that the difficulty in assimilating Species 10030 was the presence of this life-form, deemed automatically by the nanites to be unworthy of assimilating.  To counter this new, species-specific, nanoprobes were developed which would multiply more quickly in order to overwhelm the symbiote (designated Species 10031). Tests of these nanoprobes were successful however their additional multiplicative abilities came with a drawback. They require more energy to produce meaning that a single drone could only assimilate about 5 lifeforms before needing to regenerate. This will mean a greater number of drones will be needed for assimilating the species than average.  While assimilating the remaining captured individuals aboard the Probe we encountered a weapon which used a small localized dampening field to disrupt connection with the Collective and induce confusion. We found that we could adapt to this device by having a number of drones standing and transmitting right at the edge of the dampening field radius. Their single would then be strong enough to get through to the drones within the field. We are now in the process of begining our assault on the closest Species 10030 colony. The drones from Submatrix 34 have been sent to assimilate one of the attacking vessels.
