The energy signal Probe 815's surviving drones went to investigate led to the remains of a civilisation belonging to an unrecognised small quadrupedal species. There were corpses, covered in the blue residue we found at the crash site. The habitations of this civilisation were found inside of trees. Their technology appeared to be designed to blend in well with the environment. As we were scanning the remains, we were attacked by more insectoid creatures. These creatures, while having similar DNA to the previous ones, could fly. Like the others, they would not assimilate. The drones were able to destroy the threats, but only 18 of the Probe's 900 drones remained by the time the replacement Probe came to retrieve them. Functional implants from the deactivated drones were collected and the survivors were taken aboard the replacement vessel.
Samples of the blue residue that the insectoid creatures left behind was scanned and assimilated. Unlike the creatures themselves, the residue assimilated without issue. While the DNA is complex, this does not appear to be the reason why we cannot assimilate the creatures, which we have designated Species 10037. Why Species 10037 cannot be assimilated is unknown at this point. The replacement Probe 815 functioned as normal for the next week, assimilating two Species 10030 vessels and a planet and docked at Unimatrix 01 for maintenance. Over the course of the week, Species 10037 began appearing in various parts of our space. We have determined that the initial infestation most likely came from Probe 815, as the first places the insects appeared were the places Probe 815 had visited, but the infestation is now too vast to simply destroy infected vessels. We are also not yet certain how the insects are spreading.
We have found traces of the blue residue on a number of our vessels and complexes but it does not appear on scans. We can only see it through visual inspection. Investigation of the substance on Probe 815 found clusters of Species 10037 eggs inside the substance. The eggs connect to our devices, draw energy from them to shield themselves and match their signatures to avoid being detected on scans. We have cut power to Probe 815 so that the drones aboard can vaporize the eggs. This was working at first but the eggs have now hatched and the probe is infested with hundreds of thousands of small insectoid creatures. These are not as difficult to eliminate as their larger incarnations but still appear resistant to assimilation. We have yet to determine how many vessels and complexes have been infected with the Species 10037 eggs but visual inspection is ongoing. The adult members of Species 10037 are causing considerable damage aboard our vessels, complexes and planets. They continue to multiply and are adapting to our attacks. The number of shots it takes to disable the creatures is increasing exponentially with each deactivation.
