Opila Xozalt was born into a proud Klingon warrior clan on the Klingon Home Planet of Qo'noS aged 6 she was orphaned when her father was killed when his bird-of-prey was destroyed due to sabotage, she was raised by her paternal uncle who did his best to keep his wayward niece on the straight and narrow as she struggled against the rigidity of Klingon society.

In the year 2402 she joined the crew of the K'Vort class bird-of-prey the IKS wamwI under the command of a Klingon warrior named Ajan Vorn who took her aboard as a favour to her uncle, she served under Ajan Vorn without incident for two years, until she learned by accident Ajan Vorn had orchestrated the 'accident' which killed her father, driven by hatred and a desire to avenge her father Opila Xozalt arranged for Ajan Vorn to meet with an unfortunate accident, it backfired and he survived, but he was unaware she was behind the botched attempt to hand him over to an Intergalactic Crime Lord who was hell bent on vengeance. Unable to serve any longer under the treacherous former First Officer of her father she lured him off of the IKS wamwI onto the surface of a planet and challenged him to a duel of honour in which she bested Ajan Vorn, handing his corpse over to claim the bounty, but when she went to claim her rightful place as Captain of the IKS wamwI she was jettisoned in an escape pod and threatened with execution if she returned to Qo'noS.

Opila Xozalt was 'rescued' by a freighter in the Delta Quadrant as a crew member she learned numerous skills which would serve her quite well later on in life in the Delta Quadrant, in the middle of the year 2406 she betrayed the crew to a planetary government and claimed the sizable bounties on their heads and her new career as a Bounty Hunter had begun, a career which she pursued actively for the following eleven years taking down many foes most Bounty Hunters would not dare go after.

Eventually Opila became aware that a former associate in the form of a notorious crime lord had grown fearful of her and had put out a contract on her life, forcing Opila to go to ground to avoid all of the would be assassins seeking to claim the reward for eliminating her, despite her best efforts several wouldbe assassins got close forcing Opila to kill them and move onto a new hideout.In her last hideout Opila desperate for a way out of harms way heard of the Delta Freedom Alliance and their reputation.

During Opila's time at the DFA academy she heard of the Cromwell and the Captain of the vessel Carson Sesgaard a name that was well known to all Klingons and he was revered in the Klingon Empire for his efforts to help allow the Klingon Empire to gain access to the Delta Quadrant and when asked what assignment she would prefer she without hesitation requested the Cromwell
