Stardate 2414.12 Location PLanet Azara Our search for Dr Graham, the missing scientist on the planet Azara, was derailed while we went searching for one of our own, who failed to beam into the right location.  Sending out the Marines, also proved fruitless, as he too soon became missing in action.  Like the rats in the maze, we finally sorted out who was searching for whom and slowly are beginning to link up again.  On a good note, we have overcome some communications problems with a series of relays, delayed message transmissions, and if all goes well, a shuttle providing real time satellite transmission in a geosynchronous orbit. The Azarans are slowly becoming understandable, although, like most cultures, they have some unique traits.  Trading is culturally important, and the crew has begun trading small items for junk with the Azarans.  Hopefully Lt. Martis will arrive soon with more trading items.  Our goal is to get into the bigger city next this month and search further for the lost researcher.  So far, nothing seems nefarious....at least so far.

Cromwell has returned!  We have destroyed the Borg Hand by dropping it into a star.  It came at a severe cost of injuries among the crew.  Dr Krieg with Space exposure is only now getting out of sickbay.  Jinx has managed to reintegrate his conscious with his body with Dr Shran's assistance.  Ensign Who, resident android, has not been brought back online, although we continue to hold out hope.

As part of rehabilitation (or perhaps just torture) the first officer required the captain to do crew evaluations on all of the crew.  A couple are still open, but surprising revelations occurred in more than a few of them.

Finally, a real science and Star Trek mission!  DFA Command has sent Cromwell on a rescue mission for a missing scientist.  The Captain's log entry summarizes some of the challenges ahead.

Captain's Log, Stardate 2414.12 Cromwell had slowed to Warp 3 and is on approach to the Azara system.  DFA Command has sent us to find a missing anthropologist, a scientist studying the Azarans, who are a rodent like people who have reached the industrial age.

The senior crew has met, and will have to embark on an away mission.  The location Dr Graham had chosen to study, while it made for interesting research into Azaran society and theology of these people, is in an area of the planet called the Ashlands; The hills are a sensor void.  The only comparison I can draw to it are the hills of Denu II where all technology breaks down.  I am hoping for a lesser problem, perhaps one we can overcome.  Because we will be in close contact with the Azarans, we will have protheseis made to appear as they look.  The away team will have to beam into the outskirts of the sprawling city, a place called the Boneyard, and make our way into the city to begin the search.

It is concerning Dr. Graham is missing.  He has devoted his life to this planet and studying the people.  His senior graduate student confirms he is careful, meticulous, and not prone to impassioned emotion or deviation from acceptable scientific principals.  He is well respected in the anthropology circles.  In essence, a typical Trill scientist.

End recording.

You have to hand it to the crew of Cromwell.  Out of time, and falling into the sun, they manage to pull victory from defeat.  (Two puns, two sentences, not bad)

The Borg Hand, a prosthesis communications device from a trill borg, used its ability to access Cromwell's computers, learn about them, and itself, and almost took over the ship.  Adapting in true borg fashion, holoborg were created and adapted creating an army of Borg Drones.

Coordinated attacks with the Marines on deck 22, The helm and ops officers taking the auxiliary bridge, and Who, Krieg and Jinx isolating the hand in the shuttle in which it had hid.

The battle within the shuttle cost the crew three good officers.  While the shuttle broke apart and the hand battled the three, Dr Krieg kept Jinx alive, while Jinx's nanites battle the borg naanites.  Ensign Who kept isolating the hand further and further until no one could control the shuttle.  As it broke apart, the three were transported to sickbay in the post 'The dieing, the dead and rigor mortis'

Emma Shran, assimilated by the borg, it slowly battling herself and removing the borg assimilation programs, will she recover quickly enough to save Banor?  Jinx gave her the tools to save him, but the situation is becoming difficult as she just got three new patients from the shuttle....And Jinx is not showing any neural activity signs.

Cromwell will have to recover, and return home.  Finally a chance to relax during the upcoming holiday season. (so says the Devious command crew)
